John J. “Jack” Whelan is a longtime resident of Delaware County who has shown an exemplary commitment to public service, public safety and the quality of life inDelaware County. As an attorney for 25
years and an elected leader for 15 years,
Jack has demonstrated the integrity, experience and dedication to the law that will make him an excellent District Attorney for Delaware County. For six years, he has served on Delaware County Council and is now the chairman of the five-member Council. As Chairman, he oversees the many programs that serve county residents 
including
includingServices for the Aging, Veterans Affairs, Library Services and Emergency Services, which encompasses the vital 911 center and local homeland security initiatives.
As Council Chairman, Jack partners with the District Attorney’s office on many crime-prevention initiatives including Internet Crimes Against Children, Safe Schools and the Senior Exploitation Unit. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney from 1986-1991 and as a Trial Prosecutor for the County of Delaware. He Tried a myriad of criminal defendants including high profile first degree murder jury trials involving the death penalty and life imprisonment as well as many other felony and misdemeanor trials. As trial team leader he was responsible for case management, assignment and supervision of the overall trial team.
Jack is seeking to continue to serve the people of Delaware County as District Attorney with the same integrity, expertise and dedication he has shown as a Council member.
